KARACHI: Pakistan’s four players will participate in ‘Shaping Future Stars: Asian Table Tennis Union Academy Programmes’ in Doha from December 17-23.
The programmes will be hosted in collaboration with Aspire Academy and the Qatar Table Tennis Association to nurture the next generation of table tennis talent across Asia. In this regard, Pakistan Table Tennis Federation (PTTF) has submitted to Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) the names of the players selected.
“The athletes selected are the best in their respective sports, based on the latest national rankings, recent performance metrics, and overall potential,” said Ejaz Ali, Secretary PTTF in a letter to PSB.
“We confirm that no favouritism or bias has influenced the selection process. The athletes chosen are fully capable of representing Pakistan and achieving success in the said programme."
The selected players include M Azan, Fahad Khan, Hoor Fawad (national ranking number 1; won bronze medal at South Asian Youth Table Tennis Championship in Sri Lanka; and participated in Asian Games, Islamic Games, Asian Championship in Korea), and Bisma Faryal (national ranking 7th; won bronze medal at South Asian Youth Table Tennis Championship in Sri Lanka).
It is to be noted that the said programmes were approved at the last Annual General Meeting (AGM) of ATTU for elevating the standard of table tennis in the region and to provide young athletes with high-quality training, mentorship, and exposure to advanced coaching techniques.
Each Asian Member Association/Federation was invited to nominate up to four players—two boys and two girls—U17 to participate in this camp. The ATTU will cover the accommodation expenses for all selected participants.
