Four robbers who murdered ex-SSG commando in Clifton killed in police encounter

Four suspected robbers were killed on Sunday during an alleged encounter with police in the Clifton area.

The encounter took place on the night between Saturday and Sunday near a nullah in Clifton Block 9.

The encounter reportedly took place when the District South police was busy in snap checking in colloboration with the intelligence wing of the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) of the Sindh police.

During the shootout, the four suspects sustained severe injuries They died while being transported to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC).

The deceased suspects were identified as Raj Kumar, Shiri Chand, Nawab Ahmed Solangi and Abdul Sattar.

According to a press release issued by the District South police, the suspects had during a robbery bid on November 6 killed a security guard named Saeed who was accompanying a private company employee, Daniyal, in Defence Phase V within the limits of the Clifton police station.

After killing the guard, the suspects fled with Rs564,000. Saeed was a retired Pakistan Army official and an SSG commando.

Police said the same gang was involved in the murder of businessman Asif Balwani during a robbery attempt on June 5, 2024, in the Defence police’s jurisdiction.

Furthermore, on January 12, 2022, the suspects had killed a man named Deer Band during a robbery attempt.

Police claimed to have seized four pistols and two motorcycles from the suspects’ possession. Further investigations are underway.

Separately, a suspected robber was killed and another arrested in an injured state after an exchange of fire with the police in Korangi Industrial Area.

Police said the suspects were robbing a family when cops reached and an exchange of fire took place between the police and the robbers.

The body of the killed robber and injured robber were taken to the JPMC. Police said they were trying to identify the suspects. A case has been registered and investigations are under way.
