ISLAMABAD: The Finance Division has expressed reservations over the summary sent by the Ministry of Housing and Works for increasing the monthly rent ceiling of government employees.

The ministry had sent the summary of an increase in rental ceiling to the Finance Division based on market survey conducted by the Estate Office. The Finance Division sent this summary back to the ministry of housing, saying a third-party survey should be conducted to review the Estate Office survey.

The housing ministry will now conduct a third-party survey through a private firm or a government agency, putting the matter in doldrums.

In the light of the survey conducted by the Estate Office, a 100 percent increase in rent ceiling of employees in Grade-1 to 10 is proposed; 75pc for employees in Grade-11 to 16 and 50pc for officers in Grade-17 to 21.

According to sources, monthly ceiling for employees in Grade-1 to 2 in Islamabad is proposed Rs14,058 and Rs13,182 for other cities. For employees in Grade-3 to 6, the ceiling for Islamabad is Rs21,960 and Rs19,308 for other cities.

For Grade-7 to 10, ceiling for Islamabad is Rs28,705 and Rs25,693 for other cities. For Grade-11 to 13, Islamabad’s ceiling is Rs43,302 and Rs37,558 for other cities. For Grade-14 to 16, Islamabad’s ceiling is Rs54,399 and Rs477,884 for other cities. For grades 17 and 18, Islamabad’s ceiling is Rs61,720 and Rs53,847 for other cities.

For Grade-19, Islamabad’s ceiling is Rs82,056 and Rs70,224 for other cities. For Grade-20, Islamabad’s ceiling is Rs103,050 and Rs88,618 for other cities. For Grade-21, Islamabad’s ceiling is Rs123,391 and Rs106,660 for other cities, while for Grade-22, Islamabad’s ceiling is Rs147,666 and Rs133,845 for other cities.
