Karachi's ongoing battle with street crime claimed another life on Saturday, as a father of four was killed in a mobile phone snatching attempt.

The victim, 30-year-old Salman, was shot during the robbery in the Sakhi Hassan area. He was a resident of Liaquatabad No 1, and was with his friend Bilal when the incident occurred.

According to Bilal, the two men were returning home when four armed suspects on two motorcycles intercepted them on the Five Star Chowrangi flyover in the North Nazimabad area. The robbers opened fire as they attempted to steal Salman's possessions, fatally wounding him in the chest. He was immediately rushed to a private hospital on Stadium Road, but he succumbed to his injuries shortly after.

During the robbery, the suspects stole Salman's purse, his licensed pistol, and his mobile phone. Despite the violence, the assailants managed to flee the scene. The police recovered a bullet and a shell from the location.

Salman, who worked in the catering industry, leaves behind four children — a five-month-old daughter, two sons and another daughter. His brother, Sohail, spoke to the media, explaining that Salman was the youngest of their siblings and the sole breadwinner for his family.

"We appeal to the government and law enforcement agencies to swiftly arrest the culprits," said Sohail. "The culprits have devastated our family."

A case has been registered, and investigations are ongoing. This year alone, the death toll from street crimes in Karachi has reached 101, with no sign of the violence subsiding.
