PESHAWAR: Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) provincial Chairman Sikandar Hayat Khan Sherpao on Saturday expressed concern over the escalating violence and unrest in Kurram district and asked the government to take immediate measures to restore peace in the region. He warned that the government’s indifference could have far-reaching consequences for the entire province.

Speaking at the QWP secretariat, Watan Kor, during discussions with various party delegations, Sikandar Sherpao said the situation in Kurram required urgent attention.

He criticized the authorities for their lackluster response, stating that the provincial government was focusing solely on protests and countering the federal government’s actions, while the dire situation in Kurram had been ignored.

Sikandar Sherpao condemned the statement by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister, who said he would “review the situation” in Kurram, calling it an insult to the victims.

“Innocent lives are being lost, and the violence has reached its peak, yet the government is still in the phase of merely assessing the situation,” he said.

The QWP leader expressed grief over the loss of previous lives in Kurram, adding that the situation in Parachinar had remained tense for several weeks.

He said violence had disrupted daily life in Kurram that included the closure of roads, which left the residents struggling to access essential services.

Sikandar Sherpao urged the government to sense the gravity of the situation in Kurram and southern districts and take concrete steps to restore peace and ensure the safety of residents.

“If the government fails to act promptly, it will bear full responsibility for the worsening situation,” he warned. The QWP leader reiterated that immediate action was crucial to prevent the violence from spiraling out of control, which could threaten the stability of the entire region.
