MANSEHRA: A woman was killed and her father-in-law sustained injuries when armed men opened fire in the Battal area on Saturday.
The woman, Anila Bibi, was on her way to a court in Mansehra from Chaterplian along with his husband and other relatives when an armed group opened indiscriminate fire on them near Battal area.
As a result, Anila Bibi and her father-in-law Mohammad Bashir sustained gunshots and were taken to the Rural Health Centre in Battal, where doctors pronounced the former dead. Mohammad Bashir was referred to Ayub Medical Complex Hospital in a serious condition.
According to police, the suspects, identified as Abdul Hameed, Shahizar, Usmanzar, Baghizar and Zakirullah, fled the scene after the incident.
Police officials said that the slain woman had married Mohammad Shan after eloping from her home last year and was on her way to appear in court regarding the same case.
The Battal police have registered an FIR and launched raids to arrest the suspects including the woman’s brothers and other family members.
