Islamabad : Despite the looming Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest scheduled for November 24 in Islamabad, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) remains committed to uninterrupted development work on two major projects at Serena Chowk and 9th Avenue. The authority has pledged to meet the tight deadlines for completing these projects without any delays.

An official involved in the projects stated that in anticipation of road blockades during the protest, the necessary construction materials, including steel, cement, and machinery, have already been stockpiled at the two sites. “We cannot afford any interruptions in development activities. Work will continue round the clock, even if roads are closed,” he said.

At the Serena Chowk underpass project, which also includes loops, progress is reportedly on track. “We are adhering to the plan, and so far, 15 to 20 per cent of the work has been completed,” an official overseeing the site noted.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif inaugurated the Rs4.2 billion Serena Chowk underpass project, along with the 9th Avenue initiative, earlier this month. Currently, piling work is underway, and the project is expected to be completed within 60 days.

The official further mentioned that adjustments to the project plan, such as the removal of a loop toward Srinagar Highway, are likely to reduce the overall cost of the project. "Once calculations are complete, we will know the extent of the cost reduction," he added. Simultaneously, construction work on the 9th Avenue project near the F-8 telephone exchange, which includes an underpass, loops, and a flyover, is progressing rapidly. This Rs4 billion project is targeted for completion within 100 days, with plans to open the site to traffic by the end of February.

“We have ensured that work continues seamlessly despite the political protest. All necessary machinery and materials are already in place,” another official stated.

CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa has been closely monitoring the progress, visiting the project sites almost daily. "There are strict instructions to ensure the projects are completed within their stipulated timelines," the official emphasized. Both projects are seen as critical for easing traffic congestion and enhancing infrastructure in the capital city.
