CJP forms sub-committee for prisons’ reforms

PESHAWAR: Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Yahya Afridi has constituted a sub-committee of the Prisons Reforms Committee for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Friday.

A prison reform consultation meeting was held under the chairmanship of Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi.

Chief Justice of Peshawar High Court Ishtiaq Ibrahim, Justice Ejaz Anwar Khan, administrative and monitoring judge for jails participated in the meeting.

Chief Justice Yahya Afridi emphasized the need for a fair and equitable criminal justice framework and formed a sub-committee of the Prison Reforms Committee in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Ayesha Bano will be the coordinator of the sub-committee formed by the Chief Justice while MPAs Fazal Shakur Khan, Ahmad Karim Kundi and Amjad Ali will be the members of the sub-committee.

A representative of the IG Jails will also be part of this sub-committee. The body will prepare a report on the conditions of prisons in the province and will suggest reforms.

The Sub-Committee on Jail Reforms will submit its report to Justice Retired Qalandar Ali Khan.

The chief justice lauded the KP jail administration for releasing 1289 prisoners held for petty crimes.
