ISLAMABAD: Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, Chief of the Air Staff, Pakistan Air Force, on Thursday visited the 12th edition of the International Defence Exhibition (IDEAS-2024) at the Karachi Expo Centre.
The event showcases the latest advancements in defence and aerospace technology, attracting a diverse array of national and international audiences, according to an Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) news release.
The air chief’s visit underscores the importance of technological collaboration and innovation in strengthening Pakistan’s national defence capabilities. During his visit, Air Chief Marshal Sidhu toured various stalls within the National Aerospace Science and Technology Park pavilion, which prominently features cutting-edge technologies in space, cyber, artificial intelligence, electronic warfare, aerospace design, sensors, and simulators. He engaged in detailed discussions with national partners, emphasising the critical role of technological collaboration.
Highlighting the transformation of promising start-ups into small and medium enterprises (SMEs), the air chief stressed the need to foster a robust ecosystem that encourages venture capitalism to drive innovation and growth in the aerospace sector. He also underscored the importance of nurturing emerging talent and enhancing local industry capabilities through the National Incubation Center for Aerospace Technology (NICAT).
During interactions with foreign delegates, the air chief explored opportunities for the sale and purchase of indigenously developed aerospace equipment, promoting a self-reliant defense industry. Speaking on the occasion, he encouraged the establishment of a comprehensive defence industry framework aimed at identifying and addressing existing gaps in the aerospace sector. He further emphasized fostering both national and international collaborations to synchronise technological roadmaps and ensure Pakistan remains at the forefront of aerospace innovation.
