ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has urged the federal government to consult stakeholders on the canal project on the Indus River, saying the government should not build controversial projects like the Kalabagh Dam. He said if the objections were not heard, the entire project would become controversial.
Bilawal Zardari, in a video message on the ‘X’ and other social media platforms, warned the government if the objections of Sindh and Balochistan were not heard and the stakeholders were not consulted, then the entire project will become controversial.
He said the government should not build controversial projects like the Kalabagh Dam as imposing opinions by force will have a negative impact on political stability and the economy. Instead of starting controversial projects, stakeholders should be taken into confidence. He said the PPP would try to convince the federal government to reconsider the project of new canals.
Bilawal said he wants to benefit farmers from the Sindh Green Project and wants to start cooperative farming in populated areas in the first phase. “Cooperation and support from the federation will encourage small landowners,” he said.
Bilawal said that agriculture is the backbone of our economy and to create a consensus among the provinces, we can make the Green Pakistan project successful. The federal government should review its decision on the canals.
