Universal Children’s Day, marked annually on November 20, challenges us to face the broken promises that shatter the hopes of children. Unfortunately, even with constitutional guarantees, millions of children face systemic neglect, robbing them of their right to education, protection, and a promising future. The consequences of these failures are immense. Without education and proper care, children are trapped in cycles of poverty, inequality, and despair, compromising the social and economic progress of a nation. For Pakistan to secure a prosperous future, the health, education, and safety of its children must be prioritised.
Sadly, the existing support for their development is gravely lacking. This day cannot merely be a token reminder; it must be a spark for real, actionable change. It is of utmost importance that the government focuses on the needs of children by increasing funding for education, enforcing strict child labour laws, and enhancing child protection initiatives. Civil society has an equally critical role in raising awareness, challenging harmful traditions, and holding policymakers accountable.
