Tiktokers held, cops suspended after video in lockup

MANSEHRA: Two tiktokers were arrested, three policemen suspended and the station house officer was issued a show-cause notice by the district police officer (DPO) after a video recorded inside the lockup of the Lassan Nawab Police Station went viral on social media on Thursday.

The viral video, recorded inside the Lassan Nawab Police Station’s lockup, shows one of the arrested tiktokers dancing to a Hindko language song, displaying what he called “extraordinary bravery” after his supposed arrest.

DPO Shafiullah Khan Gandapur ordered the immediate arrest of the tiktokers, Hassan Arshad and Mohammad Arshad, both residents of Lassan Nawab and police subsequently apprehended them.

The DPO also suspended three policemen, Mohammad Noman, Mohammad Mukhtar and Mohammad Shahzad for their failure to prevent the incident inside the lockup.They were also closed/ ordered to report police lines until further orders.Gandapur also issued a show-cause notice to SHO Mohammad Anwar, initiating an inquiry against him.

“Two suspects misused the lockup to record and circulate a video on social media. You are liable to face an inquiry and possible strict punishment under Police Rules 1975,” the show-cause notice quoted Gandapur as saying.

The notice further stated that the SHO could face strict punishment under these rules. The SHO was also directed to provide a written explanation for the incident, which demonstrated poor performance and amounted to gross misconduct.
