Protective bail of PTI leaders, lawmakers extended

PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court on Thursday extended the protective bail of several leaders and lawmakers of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and also issued notices to the federal government to provide details of cases registered against certain PTI leaders.

Two separate division benches of the PHC comprising Chief Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim and Justice Wiqar Ahmad and Justice SM Attique Shah and Justice Sahibzada Asadullah heard the petitions while Advocate Alam Khan Adeenzai represented the petitioners.

The benches extended the protective bail of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Deputy Speaker Suraya Bibi, Special Assistant to the Chief Minister Mishal Yousafzai, PTI leaders Sanam Javed, PTI Punjab leader Raja Basharat, and Alia Hamza.

The benches also issued notices to the federal government and sought details of cases registered against Suraya Bibi and Sanam Javed within seven days.The petitioners’ counsel informed the court that the petitioners belonged to an opposition political party and have had cases registered against them in Islamabad and other cities of the country.

He pleaded that they wished to appear before the courts but they could due to lack of information about the cases.The counsel prayed the court to provide details of the cases and extend their protective bail to allow them to appear before the relevant courts and seek relief.

After arguments, the court extended the protective bail of the petitioners until December 10 and issued notices to the federal government to provide details of the registered cases at the next hearing. Similarly, another bench also granted Minister Mishal Yousafzai a three-week protective bail and sought details of cases against her from the relevant authorities.The court directed the FIA, Punjab Police, and other relevant institutions to submit their responses.
