16 die on road in 24 hours

LAHORE: The Emergency Services Department (ESD) responded to 1,366 road accidents in all districts of Punjab during the last 24 hours. In these accidents, 16 people died, whereas 1,441 were injured. Out of these, 617 people with serious injuries were shifted to different hospitals, while 824 victims with minor injuries were treated at the incident site by Rescue medical teams.

3,324 beggars arrested in 11 months

Lahore Police have arrested 3,324 habitual and professional beggars this year as part of a continued crackdown, registering 3,266 cases in total. This was stated by a spokesman for Lahore Police issued Thursday.

The spokesman shared that the arrested suspects include 3,216 men, 99 women and nine facilitators. The arrests were made in various divisions, including 840 from the City Division, 359 from Cantt, 342 from Civil Lines, 676 from Saddar, 415 from Iqbal Town and 634 from Model Town Division.

The CCPO Bilal Siddique Kamyana maintained that the crackdown on the beggars was continuous and expressed a commitment to continuing actions against beggars who also use children and women as a shields to their nefarious designs.

The CCPO ordered accelerating operation against beggars in collaboration with the Child Protection and Welfare Bureau and Social Welfare Department for the rehabilitation of such elements.

Woman set on fire by ‘paramour’

A married woman sustained burns after being set on fire by her alleged paramour in his residence within the jurisdiction of Manawan police. The victim identified as Sadia, wife of Kashif and a resident of L Block Sabzazar, is currently under treatment at a hospital.

According to police, Sadia had left her husband's home and moved in with her paramour, Hassan, in Alhamd Garden. Sadia alleged that Hassan had been sexually assaulting her for six days under the false promise of marriage.

On Wednesday, after dropping his wife at her parents' house, Hassan returned home and allegedly poured petrol on Sadia before setting her on fire. The victim was rushed to the hospital, where her condition remains critical. Police have registered a case against Hassan and launched an investigation into the incident.
