PESHAWAR: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Sheikh Waqas on Wednesday said that founding chairman Imran Khan’s wife Bushra Bibi has conveyed her husband’s message that she would not lead any political protest as she was not a political figure.
Commenting on the Toshakhana case, he stated that there was nothing substantial in it, dismissing the speculations surrounding the matter. He emphasized that negotiations would only be conducted with those holding actual powers, adding, “How can we negotiate with a government that has stolen the mandate?”
Highlighting the importance of women in movements, Sheikh Waqas said, “No movement can succeed without the participation of women. In all our meetings, women have participated in significant numbers.” Responding to a question, he confirmed that members of the transgender community would be part of the upcoming protest. “In our protests in Sindh and Punjab, transgender persons have participated,” he added.
He assured that their supporters would remain vigilant but committed to peaceful demonstrations. “We do not promote unrest. Anyone inciting chaos will be removed from our ranks,” he said.
Sheikh Waqas, who hails from the Jhang district, expressed his desire to lead the protest convoy from his home district. “My convoy is ready in Jhang, and if the leadership permits, I would like to lead it myself,” he stated.
