Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab has handed over an iPhone and laptop to students from government schools who secured top positions in the matriculation exams.
The successful students and their parents met the mayor at his office on Wednesday. Members of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) City Council were also present on the occasion.
Wahab presented an iPhone to Hafiz Abdul Rafey, who secured the first position in the matriculation exam, and a laptop to Romaisa, who secured the second position.
He said it was a matter of pride that children from government schools in Karachi had achieved positions in the matriculation exams.
"Today, I have handed over these prizes to them. I wish these students continued their studies with even more dedication and achieved greater success in future exams, bringing honour to their city and country," the mayor remarked.
He said the position-holder children were an example for the entire nation, proving that even with limited resources, hard work and determination never went wasted.
Wahab also expressed the hope that the children would continue getting similar success in higher education in the future. He emphasised that quality education helped shape good and productive people in society.
The mayor also advised the children to respect their parents, teachers and elders. Parents who educated their children despite limited resources should be praised as they set a great example for society, Wahab added.
