PESHAWAR: An anti-terrorism court here on Wednesday granted the police three-day physical remand of seven suspects accused of attacking the Khazana Police Station.
The suspects were produced before the court of Judge Muhammad Iqbal. The accused were charged with attacking the police station during a protest against the alleged desecration of the Holy Quran.
During the proceedings, it was alleged that the suspects stormed the police station during the protest against the alleged desecration of the holy book in the area.
The mobsters reportedly attempted to set the police station building on fire, pelted stones at cops, and demanded the handing over of the accused.
The confrontation resulted in injuries to several individuals, including SP Rural and other cops, as well as protesters.
Meanwhile, a local court here on Wednesday remanded a suspect accused of desecrating the Holy Quran to police custody for three days.
The suspect, Humayun, was produced before Judicial Magistrate Muhammad Shoaib.
During the proceedings, the court was told that the accused had allegedly desecrated the Holy Quran during a domestic dispute in the jurisdiction of Khazana Police Station. The police requested for the physical remand of the accused for further investigation. The court accepted the plea and granted a three-day physical remand for the suspect.
