Islamabad : The Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training and the Cambridge University Press and Assessment's (CUPA) International Education Division on Wednesday agreed to offer Cambridge qualifications at four government schools in Islamabad Capital Territory.

The agreement came during the visit of a CUPA delegation led by Group Managing Director Rod Smith to the ministry here where it met with Minister Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui to formalise the signing of a memorandum of understanding. The International Education Group at CUPA is a division that works with schools, governments, and partners around the world to improve the impact of education.

During the meeting with CUPA delegation, education minister Dr Siddiqui highlighted Cambridge's positive contribution to providing quality education to Pakistani youth, urging the institution to broaden its role in the country. He emphasised the importance of enhancing assessment capabilities within local education boards and said that there should be greater transparency and more robust engagement in the education sector.

Education secretary Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani highlighted salient features of the MoU and said that the initiative established a framework for cooperation between the ministry and Cambridge to introduce Cambridge qualifications in four government schools in Islamabad.

"This move aims to elevate educational standards and offer international qualifications to students in Islamabad Model College for Girls F-6/2, Islamabad Model College for Boys G-6/3, Islamabad Model College for Boys F-8/3 and Islamabad Model College for Girls F-8/1," he said. The secretary pointed out that the MoU would introduce Cambridge Lower Secondary, IGCSE, and A-Level qualifications at the four schools, improving education quality by providing students with access to internationally recognised credentials.

"This initiative also focuses on building the capacity of teaching staff to effectively deliver the Cambridge curriculum, helping students access a wider range of global higher education and career opportunities," he said.
