ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh made a significant visit to the Hutchison Port in Hong Kong, reinforcing Pakistan’s vision for a modernized and globally competitive maritime sector.
The minister was warmly received by Hutchison Port’s Group Managing Director, Eric Ip, who presented him with a commemorative souvenir to mark the occasion. During the visit, Sheikh engaged in a productive dialogue with Eric Ip and Executive Director Hutchison Pakistan/Gulf, Andy Tsoi, focusing on Hutchison’s operations in Pakistan, historical partnerships and ambitious plans for expansion, reported local media.
Highlighting Pakistan’s strategic location and the critical role of its ports in driving regional and global trade, the minister acknowledged Hutchison Port’s vital contributions to transforming the country’s maritime infrastructure.
The existing agreement between the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Hutchison Port has already catalyzed substantial investments in Karachi Port and other facilities, introducing state-of-the-art technologies and services.
Sheikh lauded Hutchison’s commitment to fostering economic growth and elevating Pakistan as a regional trade hub. “Hutchison Port is not just investing in infrastructure; it is shaping the future of Pakistan’s maritime industry,” he stated, expressing confidence that such collaborations will position Pakistan as a key player in global commerce while boosting the national economy.
This visit underscores Pakistan’s dedication to building strategic partnerships aimed at unlocking the true potential of its maritime sector, paving the way for a prosperous future.
