LAHORE : As the AQI levels improved across the province, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) allowed opening of all public and private educational institutions in Lahore and Multan also from today (Wednesday).

The ambient air quality has improved in Punjab, due to rain in upper parts of Punjab, change in wind direction and speed. Therefore, all the educational institutions in the whole province, including Lahore and Multan Division, shall be opened today (Wednesday) with physical presence of students/staff.

EPA DG, however, imposed some restrictions/precautionary measures, including all the educational institutions in these districts shall observe school opening timings not before 08:45 AM. All the students/staff shall wear face masks. There shall be a complete ban on outdoor sports and outdoor co-curricular activities until further orders. All educational institutions shall introduce class wise school closing timing to avoid traffic congestions.

Meanwhile, Met officials said continental air was prevailing over most parts of the country. They predicted that cold and dry weather was expected in most parts of the country. Smog/fog (in patches) was likely to prevail at isolated plain areas of Punjab during morning/night hours. Tuesday’s minimum temperature was recorded at Leh where mercury dropped to -08°C, while in Lahore, it was 11.7°C and maximum was 27.5°C.
