PESHAWAR: Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) provincial Chairman Sikandar Hayat Khan Sherpao on Tuesday expressed concern over the deteriorating law and order in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, particularly in the southern districts.
He maintained that the bombing of a school in South Waziristan and the kidnapping of seven cops in Bannu indicated the gravity of the situation.
A press release said he was speaking to party delegations at Watan Kor in Peshawar.
Sikandar Sherpao urged the government to take action for the safe recovery of the kidnapped cops. Describing the situation as alarming, he said the abduction of the policemen and the bombing of the school served as a wake-up call for the government.
The QWP leader criticised both the federal and provincial governments for failing to address the pressing issue of security. “Instead of focusing on the growing menace of lawlessness, the federal government is preoccupied with countering the PTI protest, while the provincial government is hell-bent on marching towards Islamabad,” he remarked.
He lamented the lack of readiness on the part of the provincial government to tackle the issue of law and order and called for an end to the use of force against those advocating for peace. “The public is left asking who they can turn to for protection and justice. The indifference of the authorities has left people feeling abandoned, insecure, and disillusioned,” he added.
Sikandar Sherpao reiterated his demand for immediate action and asked the government to take all stakeholders, including Pashtun leadership, into confidence and devise a strategy to curb the rising wave of violence. He warned that failure to prioritize the security situation could lead to further chaos.
“The government must treat this issue as a top priority and take steps to restore peace and stability in the province,” he added.
