An extra deployment of police has been made near the Karachi airport and its adjoining areas for the International Defence Exhibition and Seminar 2024 (IDEAS) starting at the Expo Centre today.
The police will be assisted by Special Security Unit (SSU) commandos, as per directives issued by Sindh police chief Ghulam Nabi Memon. Officials said the proposal for declaring the airport and its adjoining areas as ‘Red Zone’ for the defence exhibition was also under consideration.
The Karachi Traffic Police have issued a diversion plan for IDEAS 2024. Officials said that due to security reasons, the following roads will be temporarily closed for traffic from 7am to 7pm till November 22, 2024.
Moreover, both flyovers from the National Stadium flyover to Hassan Square and Hasan Square flyover to the National Stadium will be closed for traffic during the above-mentioned hours.
Stadium Road: Hassan Square (Sir Shah Suleiman Road) on the left side of Aga Khan Hospital will be closed for traffic.
Dalmia Road: Traffic will not be allowed from the Stadium signal to Hassan Square on the right side.
University Road: Commuters coming from NIPA will not be allowed to go to the National Stadium on the left side of the Expo Centre. All public, commercial vehicles should choose the following routes to avoid trouble. Heavy traffic replacement and filter locations, alternate routes, diversion and important information.
Heavy traffic: The entry of heavy and commercial vehicles and water tankers from Sharea Faisal to Karsaz Road is temporarily prohibited. All heavy and commercial vehicles should take the Drigh Road route.
Millennium Mall: The entry of heavy and commercial traffic from Millennium Mall to Stadium Road will be temporarily banned. All heavy and commercial vehicles should take the route of NIPA, Askari IV, Drigh Road to Sharea Faisal or Millennium to NIPA Chowrangi.
NIPA: The heavy and commercial traffic will not be allowed from NIPA to Hassan Square. Heavy and commercial vehicles take the Drigh Road route from NIPA, Gulshan Chowrangi to Sohrab Goth or NIPA to Millennium Mall.
Jail Chowranghi: The heavy and commercial traffic will not be allowed from Jail Chowrangi to Hassan Square. All commercial vehicles should use Shaheed-e-Millat Road or Teen Hati Road.
New Town: The heavy and commercial traffic coming from the interior area on University Road will not be allowed to go to Stadium Road. This traffic will be diverted towards PP Chowrangi, Shaheed-e-Millat Road.
Liaquatabad No 10: The heavy and commercial traffic will not be allowed from Liaquatabad No 10 towards Hassan Square. Heavy and commercial traffic will be able to move from Liaquatabad No 10 to the right towards Teen Hati.
Sir Shah Sulaiman Road: Roads on both sides of the National Stadium Road from Hassan Square will remain closed for general traffic. Apart from this, take the route from Garibabad to Sharea Faisal via Hassan Square University Road NIPA.
The public is requested to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and traffic police to avoid trouble. Follow the instructions above.
