1,392 vehicles fined Rs4.428 million since August
The Sindh Transport & Mass Transit Department has fined 1,392 vehicles since August this year, collecting penalties amounting to Rs4.428 million for various rule violations.
A crackdown on the illegal entry of heavy vehicles into Karachi is in full swing in accordance with the directives of senior minister Sharjeel Memon. According to a press statement issued by the transport department, 80 vehicles have been impounded and 58 route permits suspended, while 18 transporters have been issued with warnings over non-compliance.
A statement quoted Memon as saying that the government’s initiatives aim to bring all transport activities in line with legal standards. He noted that the operation against illegal bus stands has significantly reduced traffic congestion on the city’s roads.
He said the provincial government is committed to implementing the law without discrimination. “Violators will face strict legal action. Our top priority is to remove illegal and unsafe vehicles from the roads and eliminate any inconvenience to citizens.” He also urged public cooperation with the authorities, and emphasised that transporters must strictly adhere to the rules. The campaign will continue until full compliance is achieved.
