KHAR: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman on Monday urged the government and the state institutions to hold meaningful dialogue with Afghanistan to restore lasting peace in the region.
“Both provincial and federal governments should focus on restoring peace, as the current state of unrest is no longer tolerable,” he said during his visit to Bajaur to offer condolences to the bereaved family of JI leader Sufi Hameed.
Hafiz Naeem termed the target killing of party leader Sufi Hameed a tragic incident. He called Sufi Hameed an asset to the JI, who had contributed immensely to the growth and promotion of the party’s principles.
He asked the provincial and federal governments to utilise all possible resources to restore peace. He said, “We can no longer tolerate the prevailing insecurity and unrest. It is high time the government takes this issue seriously.”
The JI chief also questioned the role of state agencies, saying, “What are they doing?He said that when such heinous crimes took place in broad daylight and the perpetrators escaped unscathed, it always raised serious concerns about the effectiveness of these institutions.
Hafiz Naeem criticised the inability to apprehend those responsible for the incidents of unrest and target-killing and emphasized that everyone must fulfill their responsibilities.“Delivering lectures will not resolve the problem,” he said, adding that those with power must ensure that people’s lives were protected.
He stressed that strong and constructive negotiations with Afghanistan were essential to developing effective strategies for shared stability and peace.Hafiz Naeem urged the government to review and improve its policies, especially those impacting the lives of ordinary citizens. He called for practical and effective measures to improve the socio-economic conditions and ensure peace and stability in the country.
