LAHORE:An international awareness seminar on ‘Diagnosis and Treatment of Spinal Tumours’ was organised by the Department of Neurosurgery under the visionary leadership of Vice Chancellor Prof Khalid Masood Gondal and under the chairmanship of Principal FJMC/ Dean Neurosciences Prof Abdul Hameed at Fatima Jinnah Medical University here.

Prof Franco Servadei, President, World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies (WFNS), Professor of Neurosurgery Department, Humanities Clinical and Research Centre, Italy, graced the occasion as a Chief Guest Speaker.

Prof Dr Naveed Ashraf, (Retd) Senior Professor of Neurosurgery Department, AIMC, and Wasif Nagi, Senior Editor, Health Education and Current Affairs, Senior Columnist, Daily Jang Media Group, graced the occasion as the Guests of Honours.

Among the experts of the Department of Neurosurgery, Prof Shahzad Hussain, Prof Nabeel Chaudhry, and Dr Kashif Sultan also attended the event as special guests. The ceremony began with the recitation of the Holy Quran and the National Anthem. In his welcome address, Prof Abdul Hamid, Principal FJMC/ Dean Neurosciences, thanked the guests for visiting FJMU. Prof Bilquis Shabbir gave a brief introduction to Fatima Jinnah Medical University. She said that the FJMU is on the path of progress under the leadership of Prof Khalid Masood Gondal. Prof Franco Servadei briefed the participants on the diagnosis and treatment of spinal cord tumours. He said that this tumour may cause a variety of other diseases as well. He also showed some video tutorials of operations for awareness among the participants of the seminar. He stressed the need to provide the best facilities under International Neurosurgery. Prof Naveed Ashraf thanked Prof Franco Servadei for gracing the seminar. He said that the department of neurosurgery is a very delicate department in which critically ill patients are monitored. Registrar Prof Dr Muhammad Nadeem, Deans, faculty members, and students participated in this occasion. At the end of the seminar, Registrar Prof Dr Muhammad Nadeem delivered a vote of thanks, and the honorary shields were distributed among the distinguished guests.
