19 die on road across Punjab in 24 hours
LAHORE:The Emergency Services Department (ESD) responded to 1,458 road accidents in all districts of Punjab during the last 24 hours. In these accidents, 19 people died, whereas 1,563 were injured. Out of these, 743 people with serious injuries were shifted to different hospitals, while 820 victims with minor injuries were treated at the incident site by Rescue medical teams.
139 held over smog SOPs breach
During the last 24 hours police booked 108 people and detained 139 individuals on charges of violating smog SOPs across the province. The authorities imposed fine over Rs 1million upon 593 people and issued warning to 141 individuals.
The police registered five cases of stubble burning, 505 against owners of smoky vehicle, one case against industrial pollution, 19 against owners of brick kilns, and 78 cases of other smog SOPs violations. The police ticketed 5,664 smoky vehicles, impounded 542 ones and suspended fitness certificates of two vehicles during the last 24 hours. The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Punjab, wanted a zero-tolerance policy against smog SOPs violators.
9,120 drug peddlers held in crackdown
The Lahore Police have arrested 9,120 drug peddlers during its current crackdown on them. The police booked 8,833 drug traders since the start of the year. In a statement issued on Monday, the Lahore Police spokesman said the police have seized 6,926kg cannabis, 394kg opium, 261kg heroin, 161kg ice and 60,889 litre alcohol during its crackdown on drug peddlers. Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Bilal Siddique Kamyana has instructed officers to intensify targeted operations against drug peddlers. Meanwhile, Raiwind Police arrested and booked suspect Shah Sawar Khan and recovered over 10 kg hashish from his vehicle Sabzazar Police detained drug dealer Badshah alias Kali and recovered over 1 kg hashish.
Three imposters held
Three impersonators posing themselves as representatives of assistant commissioner Wagah were arrested here on Monday.According to a spokesman for the Deputy Commissioner’s office, the accused were inspecting marriage halls and farmhouses posing as representatives of the assistant commissioner Wagah. The fraudsters sealed a farmhouse and imposed a fine on the owner. On information, the assistant commissioner reached the spot and apprehended the accused.Cases were registered against the accused identified as Sufyan, Ali Muhammad and Ghulam Hussain.
