CPSP hosts 57th convocation, awards degrees to over 1,050 specialists

Islamabad:The College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP) hosted its 57th Convocation, awarding degrees to over 1,050 specialists, including 955 Fellows and 95 Members. The esteemed event was graced by the Speaker of the National Assembly of Pakistan, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, as the Chief Guest.

The ceremony began with the recitation of the Holy Quran by Dr. Umar Masood Gondal. CPSP officials, council members, heads of medical institutions, prominent figures from the medical fraternity, senior professors, and the proud parents of the Fellows attended the event from all the four provinces of the country. During the ceremony, the CPSP Councillor Major General Mazhar Ishaq administered oath to participants ensuring honesty, dedication to humanity, and adherence to professional responsibilities.

In his welcome address, CPSP President Professor Muhammad Shoaib Shafi highlighted the institution’s national and international contributions. He extended heartfelt congratulations to the successful Fellows and their families. He also expressed gratitude to the Chief Guest, Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, for his unwavering support to CPSP, particularly in resolving the Fellows’ registration issues, which garnered appreciation from Fellows across the country.

The President called upon the government to increase postgraduate training seats and emphasized the need to introduce postgraduate medical education programs at the district level. Furthermore, he underlined the importance of implementing Emergency Medicine departments in major hospitals to ensure timely and quality treatment for patients. He specially acknowledged the services of ex Health minister Dr Jamal Nasir for expansion of postgraduate program at DHQ level.

Dr. Danial Ahmad Kamal, Dr. Iqra Ghous, Dr. Umar Younas, and Dr. Muhammad Waleed Babar, were awarded gold medals by the chief guest in recognition of their exceptional achievements. Internationally renowned medical professionals, including Major General Azhar Mehmood Kayani, Dr. Amir Ali Syed, and Professor Zubair Ikram, were honoured with honorary fellowships by CPSP President Professor Muhammad Shoaib Shafi and Senior Vice President Professor Khalid Masood Gondal.

In his address, chief guest Sardar Ayaz Sadiq lauded CPSP’s contributions, declaring it a premier institution for higher medical education. He congratulated the Fellows and their families, urging them to dedicate their lives to serving humanity. He assured CPSP of full government support and encouraged the integration of advanced technology and the promotion of research in the medical field to provide top-notch patient care. The convocation concluded with CPSP President Professor Muhammad Shoaib Shafi and Senior Vice President Professor Khalid Masood Gondal conferring degrees to the Fellows and presenting shields to the honorable Chief Guest.

The President expressed his sincere gratitude to all attendees for making the event a success. This convocation stands as a significant milestone in CPSP’s legacy of excellence, achievements, and contributions to the advancement of the medical profession, he said.
