LAHOR: Global apparel brand Primark and the All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) have agreed to engage in productive discussions on sustainable cotton initiatives, industry challenges and evolving buyers’ requirements.
This important collaboration was established during a visit by a delegation from Primark’s headquarters to APTMA Lahore. Kerry Conway, head of the Primark delegation, explained that the visit aimed to discuss the Primark Cotton Project and explore potential collaboration opportunities with the APTMA.
Conway noted that the project, currently being implemented in Punjab and Sindh, is training 30,000 registered farmers on sustainable cotton farming practices through CottonConnect, ensuring traceability of the cotton via the Traceable platform. He added that the APTMA’s expertise and insights have been invaluable, and they look forward to working together to address the challenges facing the industry.
On the occasion, Asad Shafi, chairman of APTMA North, stressed the urgent need for the introduction of improved, genetically modified, and certified seeds. He also called for increased sharing of information on new seed technologies and collaboration with international research institutes to support the cotton industry’s growth.
