PESHAWAR: A passer-by was wounded when unidentified motorcyclists lobbed a hand grenade into the Syphon police post in the limits of the Badaber police station on Kohat Road on Sunday afternoon.
This was the first attack in the daytime on a police post in the provincial capital in the last several months. Police posts and stations have come under attacks multiple times in the past but all those incidents happened at night.
“No cop was wounded. The blast injured one passer-by and slightly damaged the main gate,” said Superintendent of Police Zaman Khan.
Heavy contingents of the Saddar division police arrived at the spot and cordoned off the area. The bomb disposal unit and investigators collected evidence from the spot.
A number of police posts have come under attack in Peshawar mostly in the limits of Warsak and Saddar divisions.
Apart from automatic weapons, rockets and hand grenades were also used in these attacks on police buildings and vehicles. Most of the grenade attacks on houses and offices of civilians were carried out by the extortionists when the families refused to pay money to them.
Not only in Peshawar, police, security forces and civilians came under attacks frequently in different districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for the last few years.
