30 sewing machines distributed among poor women

BAHAWALPUR: MNA Begum Parveen Masood Bhatti on Friday distributed 30 sewing machines among poor women here on Friday.

The sewing machines were provided by the Pakistan Baitul Mal to distribute among poor and deserving women. Speaking on the occasion, MNA Begum Parveen Masood Bhatti said that the government was committed to provide direct financial assistance to the needy and deserving women to empower them. She said that distribution of 30 sewing machines among the women shows that the government wants to promote the culture of self-employment among the women.

COP KILLED IN ACCIDENT: A police constable was killed in an accident near Sadiqabad on Friday.

Zaheer Ahmad was on his way by a bike when a speeding wagon hit his motorbike on Chandrami Road. As a result, he was killed on the spot.

JUVENILE JAIL INSPECTED: District and Sessions Judge Rana Masood Akhtar on Friday inspected the Borstal Institute and Juvenile Jail.

The judge listened to the problems of the children and issued necessary orders on the spot. He directed to the staff concerned to take appropriate action to resolve the different problems being faced by the prisoners.

SECURITY GUARD INJURED: A security guard of a private security company was injured when his gun went off accidentally at Chishtian on Friday.

Faheem Ahmad was cleaning his gun when it went off accidentally. As a result, he was seriously injured and rushed to a hospital.

 

Price magistrates directed to fine profiteers

BAHAWALPUR: District Coordination Officer (DCO) Dr Ahtesham Anwar Mehr Friday urged traders to maintain a sufficient stock of essential food items for consumers during Ramazan in the district.

Presiding over a district price control committee meeting, the DCO directed the price control magistrates to implement fixed rates and impose fines violators. He said: “Price lists should be displayed at prominent places at all shops for public.” The DCO urged traders not only maintain adequate stock of essentials but they should also take necessary measures to inform especially established monitoring desk at his office about the stock in their shops daily.

The committee thoroughly reviewed the rates of different food items and approved new reduced rates of different food items to provide economic relief to consumers in Ramazan.

The meeting was attended by Additional District collector Ms Imrana Amal, District Officer Co-ordination Amjad Bashir, all ACs of Bahawalpur division; representatives of both traders and consumers and other officers and officials of concerned departments of Bahawalpur district.

LIBRARIES’ IMPORTANCE: Government College Women University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Talat Afzal Friday said libraries of universities are repository of knowledge, wisdom, research and development.

Inaugurating a new research lab at the varsity, the VC said glory and majesty of intellectual and civilizational heritage is amply reflected in libraries of varsities. She said new research lab would pave the new vista of research and development by providing opportunity to research scholars in particular and students in general. The ceremony was attended by a large number of faculty members and students.
