CHITRAL: Scholarships and Iqra Awards were distributed among the top three position holder students of district-level matriculation examination in Lower Chitral on Sunday.
Arranged by prominent religious scholar and administrator of Imam-e-Muhammad Madrassa, Karachi, Qari Faizullah Chitrali, the distribution ceremony was held at the Commerce College hall here.
Lower Chitral Deputy Commissioner Mohsin Iqbal was the chief guest while District Education Officer Mahmood Ghaznavi attended the event as the guest of honour. The Imam of the Shahi Mosque, Chitral, Maulana Khaleequz Zaman Kakakhel, who is also the coordinator of the Iqra Awards, coordinated while heads, teachers, students of various schools and education department officers, and members of civil society attended the event.
In the government schools category, Seema Syed from Government High School, Sonoghur, won the first prize of Rs50,000, Sanaullah from Kohozaee School, received the second prize of Rs40,000 and Junaid Ahmad from High School, Balach, clinched the third prize of Rs30,000.
In the private sector category, Taskeen Qayyum and Hama Syed from Langland School, received the first and second prizes, respectively, while Syed Masood of Iqbal Model School received the third prize.
Similarly, Rubina Bibi, daughter of Azam Khan from the Kalash tribe, was awarded a prize of Rs20,000, while Qari Abdur Rahman Qureshi was honoured with the Iqra Award for his outstanding services for preaching the religious education.
DC Mohsin Iqbal and DEO Mahmood Ghaznavi praised the talent of students and said that credit goes to their teachers as well.
They commended Qari Faizullah Chitrali’s educational and social services, saying that he was setting good examples of services to his people in the remote area.
