LAHORE : Father James Channan OP, the Director of Peace Centre, Lahore and an influential advocate for peace, emphasised the critical need for fostering peace, tolerance, and equality across Pakistan.

In an exclusive conversation with The News, he highlighted the essential role of social harmony for Pakistan’s future, urging renewed efforts to protect minorities and uphold their rights as enshrined in the Constitution.

Father Channan shed light on Pakistan’s rich multicultural heritage, stressing that the country’s diversity should be celebrated as strength rather than a division. “Peace, interfaith harmony and tolerance are the foundation of a progressive society,” he said. “To build a prosperous and inclusive Pakistan, it is essential to acknowledge the diversity within our communities and to respect all religions, languages, and ethnicities.” He called on government leaders, community influencers, and citizens alike to champion a culture that upholds peace and mutual respect.

Addressing the specific challenges faced by minorities in Pakistan, Father Channan pointed out obstacles they face in accessing education, employment, and representation. “As citizens of this country, it is our moral and constitutional duty to ensure that minorities feel safe, valued, and included.
