17 cops suspended over poor performance

LAHORE : Seventeen officers of Lahore Investigation Wing, including in-charge investigation, were suspended due to poor performance.

The suspended officers included Sub-Inspectors (SIs) Shaukat Ali, Ahmed Ali, Niaz Ahmed, Muhammad Akram, Muhammad Sharif, Saeed Afzal, Javed Qabal, and Ali Raza. Assistant Sub-Inspectors (ASIs) Naveed Khalid, Tanveer Ahmed, Sikandar Khan, Rizwan Farid, Muhammad Mushtaq, Majid Khan, and Abdul Waheed were also suspended, along with Head Constables Azhar Niaz and Syed Ayaz.

18 arrested over smog SOPs violation

Punjab police registered 49 cases and arrested 18 persons over violation of smog SOPs in the last 24 hours.

A total of 641 people were fined Rs1.2m and 151 individuals were issued warnings. Violations included nine cases of crop residue burning, 556 cases of vehicles emitting excessive smoke, three industrial activities, 37 brick kiln violations, and five other offenses. In the last 24 hours, challans were issued to 6,793 vehicles emitting excessive smoke, with 698 vehicles impounded at police stations.
