HANGU: The police claimed to have arrested three terrorists belonging to the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) Hafiz Saeed group and recovered weapons and explosive materials from their possession on Saturday.
Speaking at a press conference, District Police Officer (DPO) Hangu, Muhammad Khalid along with Superintendent of Police Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) Saadat Hassan said that the police and intelligence agencies had arrested three terrorists who were wanted to the police and other law enforcing agencies in connection with acts of terrorism.
Taking action on intelligence-based information, he said that a police team led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Amjad Hussain and Station House Officer Fayyaz Khan erected barricades on the road in the Sarozai Pyala area.
During checking, the police apprehended the alleged terrorists, who were attempting to enter Hangu district for acts of terrorism using advanced technical tools.
During interrogation, it was revealed that the arrested terrorists were involved in multiple acts of terrorism and were on the wanted list of the police and intelligence agencies.
Among them were key terrorists Sabireen and Abid, each with a bounty of Rs2 million announced by the government.
According to the DPO, the police also recovered two Kalashnikov rifles, one 9mm pistol, two hand-grenades, explosive materials used in bombs, dozens of bullets, and four mobile phones.
The terrorists were using Telegram software to communicate with each other.
The DPO also said that the arrested terrorists were wanted in connection with several terrorist acts, including an explosion targeting DSP City. The successful operation by Hangu Police prevented another major tragedy in the district. The arrested terrorists have been handed over to the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) for further investigation.
