A prominent PPP senator has dubbed Imran Khan’s call for a protest on November 24 in Islamabad as a ‘call for chaos’. Similarly, PML-N leader Rana Sanaullah has accused Imran of planning to start an “armed struggle’’ against the government. This is an overreaction to the PTI leader’s call for protest, which is a democratic right. Pakistan politics is rather eccentric and the words of leaders often cannot be taken seriously. For example, if the government strikes a deal with the PTI and all PTI leaders and workers, including Imran Khan, are released, there would be no guarantee that Imran khan would adhere to the deal and not repeat his past strategy of trying to destabilise the sitting government with his roadblocks and sit-ins.
The PML-N-led coalition government has made many mistakes and people are reeling under unprecedented economic stress. However, Imran Khan’s tenure as PM was worse and if he comes to power. Hence, the country’s majority is caught in a ‘Catch-22’ situation. They do not know whom to support.
