KARACHI: Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) announced on Friday the discovery of hydrocarbon reserves from the Pateji X-1 well, located in District Sujawal, Sindh.
“We are pleased to disclose that a gas/condensate discovery has been made from the exploration well Pateji X-1 in the Shah Bandar block,” said a notice issued by PPL to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX).The Shah Bandar block, located in Sindh, is operated by PPL with a 63 per cent working interest. Its joint venture partners include Mari Petroleum Company Limited (MARI) with a 32 per cent share, and Sindh Energy Holding Company Limited (SEHCL) and Government Holdings (Private) Limited (GHPL), each holding a 2.5 per cent interest. “This is the third consecutive discovery in the Shah Bandar block by the company,” PPL noted.
The company reported that the well was drilled and tested using indigenous expertise. “After rigorous internal geological and geophysical (G&G) evaluations and deliberations, the exploration well Pateji X-1 was spudded on October 11, 2024, and drilled to a measured depth of 2,475 metres to test the hydrocarbon potential of the upper sands in the Lower Goru Formation. Hydrocarbon-bearing zones were identified based on drilling results and wireline log data. During testing, the well flowed at a rate of 11.7 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscfd) of gas and 198 barrels per day of condensate, with a wellhead flowing pressure (WHFP) of 2,578 psig on a 32/64-inch choke,” PPL disclosed.
PPL said that this latest discovery will add to the country’s hydrocarbon reserves, helping to alleviate the ongoing energy crisis. The company further said that increased indigenous hydrocarbon production would significantly reduce Pakistan’s reliance on energy imports and save valuable foreign exchange.
