Nov 24 protest call to be decisive, says Sheikh Waqas
PTI leaders in Punjab are facing hurdles in organising peaceful protests, says Waqas
PESHAWAR: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Central Information Secretary and Member National Assembly Sheikh Waqas Akram said on Thursday that November 24 would be the decisive day for the release of party founder Imran Khan.
Speaking at a press conference at the Peshawar Press Club, Sheikh Waqas criticized the government for undermining democratic norms and targeting PTI leadership, including the detention of the party’s founder.
Sheikh Waqas expressed grave concerns over the state of democracy in the country, describing it as “a graveyard of democracy with no rule of law.” He labeled the current government as “illegitimate” and claimed that recent constitutional amendments, particularly the 26th Amendment, have limited democratic governance. He added that the PTI leaders in Punjab were facing hurdles in organizing peaceful protests, with authorities frequently denying permission for gatherings in Lahore and Islamabad.
He also noted that charges have been filed against Bushra Bibi and that senior PTI member Yasmin Rashid. He announced that Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur would lead the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa convoys, while MNAs and MPAs in Punjab, under Hammad Azhar’s leadership, would mobilize their regions.
