KARACHI: Trials for Junior Asia Cup 2024 in Oman, Masqat, will be held on Friday (today) at Abdul Sattar Edhi Hockey Stadium in Karachi, where the training camp of national hockey team is going on these days.
Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) president Mir Tariq Hussain Bugti and Secretary PHF Olympion Rana Mujahid will be present on the occasion. National Selection Committee, comprising Olympians Danish Kaleem, Kashif Jawad and Muhammad Khalid will select the team.
The manager of Pakistan junior hockey team Ajmal Khan Lodhi said that the team management is organising daily two sessions of training along with physical training for the fitness of the players.
Ajmal said that the evening session is totally dedicates to hockey skills. Special attention is being paid to penalty shootout which has been one of the important weaknesses of Pakistan in recent international matches.
He said that extensive training sessions for forwards, defenders, PC drag flickers, goalkeepers and penalty shootout players would be organised after the selection of the players. Ajmal said that two practice matches are likely to organised for Pakistan in Oman before the event.
The following teams have qualified for the Men’s Junior Asia Cup 2024: Bangladesh, China, Chinese Taipei, India, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Oman, Pakistan and Thailand. Pakistan Junior hockey team has been placed in the pool B, along with Malaysia, Bangladesh, Oman and China, while the remaining teams are in pool A.
