LAHORE:The Punjab government, in a bid to curb air pollution, has announced a complete ban on heavy traffic and smoke-emitting vehicles entering provincial capital on Fridays and Sundays. The restrictions are part of a broader initiative to address rising smog levels in the city, according to the Lahore Traffic Police.
Under the directive, all types of heavy vehicles, including loaders and tractor trolleys, will not be permitted entry into the city on these designated days. DSPs will supervise checkpoints with personnel stationed at 12 key entry and exit points across the city. The ban applies to vehicles that are visibly emitting dark smoke, in poor condition, or lack valid fitness certificates. Exceptions will be made only for fuel carriers, medicine transporters, essential food supplies, and passenger vehicles, all of which will be subject to inspection before entry.
Chief Traffic Officer Ammara Athar stressed that ensuring compliance with this measure is a priority. "Transporters must adhere to these regulations to combat smog and improve air quality in Lahore. We must work together to eliminate environmental pollution," she stated.
