NOWSHERA: A Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-supported candidate won the seat in the by-election of the Cantonment Board Nowshera (CBN) on Thursday.
Muhammad Faiq Khan of the PTI was elected CBN member after bagging 708 votes. His rival, Rameez Khan, who was supported by former chief minister Pervez Khattak, polled 490 votes.The seat -Ward No 3-had fallen vacant after Shah Ahmad quit the position and got elected member of the National Assembly on the PTI ticket.
Three polling stations had been set up. One each for men and women and a combined for both.There was a tough contest at the seat of the Barakhel Neighborhood Council as well between Ayaz Khan and Kamran Khattak. The seat was won by the former by bagging 1019 votes. His competitor, Kamran Khattak, secured 665 votes. Muhammad Riaz Khan was the returning officer and Iftikhar Ahmad Paracha the assistant returning officer for the neighbourhood council by-election.
Elaborate security arrangements had been made for the by-polls. Cantt Executive Officer Arifa Waheed and District Returning Officer, Deputy Commissioner Irfanullah Mehsud oversaw the election process.
