ISLAMABAD: Implementing the Supreme Court decision, the Establishment Division has recommended to the Prime Minister’s Office to take necessary action to withdraw the facility of providing employment to the children or wives of the government employees under the prime minister’s package, who die during service.
The Prime Minister’s Office had sought clarification about the Supreme Court decision in a letter, written to the Establishment Division. The letter asked whether the Prime Minister’s Assistance Package (PMAP) had been abolished under the Supreme Court recent decision. The Establishment Division replied in negative, clarifying that the package had not been abolished.
The Supreme Court, in its judgment of October 18, 2024, specifically directed that the clause of providing employment under the PM assistance package should be abolished.
The Establishment Division explained that the apex court, in its judgment, had directed that the clause of providing employment to a person from the family of the deceased employee under the PM assistance package should be removed.
In its judgment, the SC had declared the practice of providing employment to the husband or wife or daughter or son of a deceased or disabled civil servant without an advertisement, competitive process and merit as discriminatory. The court had declared it unconstitutional, and various law had also been cited in the verdict.
The Establishment Division clarified that after the SC decision, other incentives or facilities, provided under the PM’s package would continue, and only the facility of providing employment would be abolished.
