BUREWALA: Dengue and malaria have spiralled out of control in Burewala and its surrounding areas with a significant rise in cases.

A woman infected with dengue was urgently transferred to Sahiwal in a critical condition, while the dengue ward at the hospital has become overcrowded with patients. The number of malaria cases has also seen an alarming increase. The ongoing smog has worsened respiratory and throat ailments, further straining the healthcare system. Reports indicate that areas like Marzi Purah, Akhtar Town, Salman Town, Lakkar Mandi, and Habib Colony are witnessing a surge in dengue cases. Evidence of mosquito breeding has been found in these areas, leading to an increase in dengue. Poor drainage systems have resulted in stagnant, dirty water in streets and markets, further contributing to the rise in malaria cases.

Furthermore, the dense smog has aggravated respiratory, throat, and eye infections, with residents suffering from health issues. The situation in these areas has become dire. One such case involved Razia Bibi from Lakkar Mandi, who was transferred in a critical condition to Sahiwal after contracting dengue.

Due to the overwhelming number of cases, many patients with dengue symptoms are being turned away from the hospital, with several seeking treatment at private healthcare facilities. In response to this crisis, the Health Department teams have been dispatched to the affected areas to raise awareness about dengue and malaria prevention.
