PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Wednesday approved the bail plea of former policeman, Jamshed, who was arrested on charges of making fiery speeches against state institutions.
A bench comprising Justice Sahibzada Asadullah Khan issued a six-page detailed verdict ordering Jamshed’s release.During the hearing, the court was informed that Jamshed had allegedly attempted to incite the public against state institutions through speeches delivered at a gathering, which were subsequently shared across various social media platforms. Following these actions, the Counter-Terrorism Department took him into custody.
Jamshed’s lawyer, Bashir Wazir Advocate, argued that the prosecution had failed to present evidence linking his client to any anti-state activities or banned organizations. He noted that, aside from videos of Jamshed’s speeches circulated on social media, no substantial evidence had been provided to substantiate the allegations.
He argued that Jamshed had no prior record of involvement in anti-state activities. After listening to the arguments, the court accepted the bail plea and ordered Jamshed’s release, noting the prosecution’s lack of evidence beyond social media content.
