Crackdown on smoke-emitting vehicles

Rawalpindi: The City Traffic Police Rawalpindi intensified its campaign against smoke-emitting and non-compliant public transport vehicles. Acting on the directives of Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Rawalpindi, the police have issued 10,814 challans since August 25, 2024. These include 5,060 tickets for route permit violations, 4,875 for fitness certificate violations, and 879 for driving without a license. Additionally, suspension papers for 27 vehicles were submitted to relevant departments, and cases were filed against drivers of 52 public transport vehicles. A total of 1,666 vehicles were impounded across various police stations, with fines totalling Rs11,693,000 imposed.

The campaign expanded in September 2024 to target vehicles with engines over 14,000 cc, as they contribute significantly to smog. So far, 5,942 challan tickets have been issued to drivers of these vehicles, with fines amounting to Rs11,884,000.

In a separate campaign focusing on school van safety, the City Traffic Police have checked 6,388 vehicles. As a result, 2,382 challans have been issued, fines totalling Rs2,308,050 imposed, and 136 vehicles impounded across different police stations.
