MIRANSHAH: At least seven persons, all believed to be local and foreign militants, were killed in a US drone attack in the Shawal Valley of North Waziristan Agency on Saturday.
Official and tribal sources said the drone fired two missiles and hit a compound in the Wara Mandi area of the remote and mountainous Shawal Valley.
According to official sources, seven militants were killed in the drone strikes.
“As per intercepts of the militants, those killed in the drone strike included members of the Punjabi Taliban and foreign militants believed to be Arabs,” an official told this correspondent pleading anonymity. There was no further detail about the identity of the slain militants.
He said the drone attack took place almost in the same area where senior al-Qaeda operatives, including US national Adam Gadahn and Ustad Farooq, were killed in drone strikes a few months ago.
After the government launched a military offensive against local and foreign militants on June 15, 2014 in North Waziristan, that displaced about one million of the local population, a majority of the militants fled to the Shawal Valley and started residing there to avoid losses in the military operation.
