The Karachi region office of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Wednesday handed over seized properties worth Rs128 million to the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR). These properties were seized from a former sales tax senior auditor, who was found guilty of accumulating assets beyond his known sources of income.
NAB Karachi conducted an investigation, then filed a reference against him and others with the Accountability Court No. 1, which sentenced them to rigorous imprisonment, fined them Rs14,241,022 and ordered seizing the ex-auditor’s properties. The convicts filed an appeal with the Sindh High Court but it was dismissed.
NAB took over the physical possession of the ex-auditor’s three properties, which were then handed over by the NAB Karachi director general to the inland revenue chief commissioner, Large Taxpayers Office, FBR Karachi, in a ceremony at the NAB Karachi headquarters. The NAB Karachi DG reaffirmed the bureau’s commitment to recovering looted money and returning it to the affected departments and individuals.
