ISLAMABAD: Justice Aminuddin Khan, head of the Constitutional Bench Committee, decided on Tuesday to hear all pending cases within the jurisdiction of the Constitutional Bench on November 14 and 15, prioritising the oldest cases.
Justice Aminuddin Khan directed the registrar’s office to list all such pending cases for hearing before the Constitutional Bench.
A meeting of the committee, constituted under Article 191A(4) of the Constitution, was held on Tuesday at the Supreme Court, chaired by Justice Aminuddin Khan, to discuss matters related to the formation of the Constitutional Bench.
The meeting was attended by Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail and Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar (who attended telephonically from Karachi).
During the meeting, the registrar’s office briefed the committee on the pending cases under the jurisdiction of the Constitutional Bench.
After thorough consideration, the committee resolved to give priority to the oldest cases.
Due to the unavailability of Mrs. Justice Ayesha A. Malik on November 14 and 15, 2024, it was decided that a bench comprising all available judges would be constituted to proceed with the cases on these dates.
Justice Aminuddin Khan also instructed the registrar’s office to list the cases accordingly for hearing before the bench.
The committee further resolved to reconvene today (Wednesday), November 13, 2024, at 12:30pm at the Supreme Court in Islamabad, upon the arrival of Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar for further deliberations, according to a press release issued on Tuesday by the Public Relations Department of the apex court.
