Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar on Tuesday ordered that appointments and transfers of traffic section officers (SOs) and police station house officers (SHOs) should be stopped immediately. “SOs and SHOs who don’t work should be sent home.”
Lanjar chaired a meeting at the Central Police Office to review the measures taken to prevent the display of weapons, traffic campaign issues, accidents and other issues. He sought explanations about the role of traffic SSPs in various traffic campaigns, and the procedure for appointments and transfers of SOs.
He asked how much time SSPs and SOs give to traffic or to facilitating people with complaints about the flow of traffic or traffic jams. He said that serious efforts should be made to resolve traffic-related complaints, facilitating people at maximum level.
He informed the Karachi police chief about the traffic campaign regarding tinted windows, display of weapons, blue lights, fake or substandard number plates, etc., and ordered taking strict measures against the display of weapons. He also sought details of the SOs to be transferred in three months.
He told the traffic police that he does not want to see any traffic problems during next week’s mega event, warning of departmental action in case of any negligence. He ordered deploying female officials at every traffic section. He also ordered ensuring single-lane parking in the South and red zones, otherwise the SO and the senior officer concerned would be held responsible.
The city and traffic police chiefs briefed the meeting separately on various issues and measures. The Sindh police chief ordered removing encroachments in the city and restoring service lanes.
