Pakistan suffers badly because it has been deprived of the desired forest cover. Ideally speaking, 25 per cent of the land in the country should be covered by forests, far higher than our paltry 4.5 per cent forest cover.
Our forest governance leaves much to be desired. The provincial departments must ensure an effective and accountable implementation of our forest policies and adopt sustainable forest management methods that incorporate social, environmental and economic actions.
