KARACHI: The Sindh Food Authority launched an operation in Korangi, targeting nine catering centres found to be supplying substandard and hazardous food.
Led by Deputy Director Fahad Baloch and Food Safety Officer Khadija Sarfaraz, the authority imposed a total of Rs570,000 fines on these centres due to serious violations of food safety standards.
During the inspection, the team identified several issues, including the use of banned Chinese salt at some locations. Poor maintenance of freezers and cross-contamination risks were also noted, leading to immediate action and the suspension of production at three centres with substandard hygiene practices.
Director General Sindh Food Authority Muzamil Hussain Halepoto emphasized the importance of adhering to food safety protocols to safeguard public health and reaffirmed that such operations would continue against violators.
